Sobriety Policy
Mama Killa World (MKW)
Scope: spiritual/educational & wellness activities (non-medical)
Last updated: 17/10/2025
Sobriety is a core pillar of safety and respect across all MKW spaces. This policy sets clear rules before, during, and after each activity, plus practice/medicine-specific guidance. It applies to retreats, circles, workshops, and 1–1 sessions.
1) Scope & non-medical reminder
MKW does not provide medical or psychological care; these sobriety rules are preventive and oriented to wellbeing.
Your Practice-Specific Preparation Guide governs where it is stricter than this policy.
If you have health or medication questions, consult your physician and report them truthfully in your Health Questionnaire.
2) Baseline rule (applies to all activities)
No alcohol or recreational drugs:
Before: at least 48 hours.
During: prohibited.
After: at least 24–48 hours substance-free (as instructed by the facilitator).
Arrive sober: no signs of intoxication, hangover, recent psychoactives, or sedation.
Prescription medications: take only as prescribed; disclose all meds/supplements in the questionnaire.
Important: some practices require more days of abstinence or specific food/medication restrictions. Always follow your Preparation Guide.
3) Specific substances (general criteria)
Alcohol: avoid ≥48 h before; remain alcohol-free ≥24–48 h after.
Cannabis & other recreational psychoactives: avoid ≥7 days before for visionary/high-process practices; remain substance-free ≥72 h after.
Recreational stimulants (cocaine, amphetamines, MDMA, etc.): prohibited; severe risk with practices/medicines.
Caffeine: limit for 24 h prior; no caffeine the morning of the event (reduces tachycardia/anxiety).
Nicotine: moderate for 24 h prior; respect breaks and designated areas.
Supplements/herbs (ginseng, guaraná, St. John’s wort, kava, etc.): may interact; suspend per Preparation Guide and disclose in the questionnaire.
Antidepressants/antipsychotics/MAOIs/SSRIs/SNRIs, benzodiazepines, beta-blockers, diuretics, anticoagulants: require evaluation; do not start/stop on your own; report dose/timing.
4) Fasting, hydration & meals
Fasting: follow the practice-specific window (some require 8–10 h).
Hydration: drink only as guided by staff (avoid overhydration).
Meals: avoid very heavy meals 2–3 h before; follow food-avoid lists per practice.
5) Practices & sobriety requirements (indicative)
Timings below are minimums; your Preparation Guide may require more. MKW may extend abstinence based on your health history and medications.
Rapé (sacred tobacco, Nicotiana rustica)
Alcohol/recreational drugs: ≥48 h before and ≥24 h after.
Caffeine: limit 12–24 h before.
Note: contains nicotine (may raise BP/HR).
Sananga (Tabernaemontana spp.)
Alcohol/drugs: ≥48 h before and ≥24 h after.
Contacts/driving: remove lenses; do not drive immediately after.
Bobinsana (Calliandra angustifolia)
Alcohol/drugs: ≥48 h before and ≥24 h after.
Caution: anticoagulants/low BP—disclose.
Yopo (Anadenanthera peregrina) (only where clearly permitted)
Alcohol/drugs: ≥7 days before and ≥72 h after.
Other psychoactives: suspend ≥14 days before; reinforced evaluation and specific consent required.
Kambô (Phyllomedusa bicolor) — higher-risk practice
Fasting: 8–10 h (only guided water).
Alcohol/drugs: ≥72 h before and ≥72 h after.
Caffeine/nicotine: avoid on the morning of Kambô; minimal nicotine that day.
Diuretics/antihypertensives: strict evaluation (risk of electrolyte/pressure shifts).
Ayahuasca — higher-risk practice (not the same as isolated DMT; MKW does not use pure DMT)
Alcohol/recreational drugs: ≥72 h before and ≥72 h after (often longer).
Serotonergic/MAO-related meds (MAOIs, SSRIs/SNRIs), antipsychotics, benzodiazepines: require planning, possible washouts and/or contraindication; do not modify without your physician.
Other psychoactives (cannabis, mushrooms, ketamine, etc.): suspend ≥7–14 days before.
Diet: follow strict preparation diet (MAO-relevant and other restrictions).
6) Pregnancy, breastfeeding & convalescence
Pregnancy/breastfeeding: generally not eligible for higher-risk practices; always disclose.
Post-surgery, active infections, or recovery: postpone and consult a professional.
7) Driving, departure & return to routine
Do not drive if you feel altered, drowsy, or visually affected.
After intense practices, prioritize rest, light food, and avoid critical decisions for 24 h.
8) Compliance & truthfulness
MKW may deny/postpone participation if intoxication, acute withdrawal signs, or non-compliance are detected.
Staff may conduct discretionary checks (e.g., basic signs) for group safety.
False or omitted information in your questionnaire/interview may result in removal from the event without refund (see Booking & Refunds).
9) On-site policy (spaces & materials)
Do not bring, hold, share, or consume alcohol/drugs in the venue or event areas.
Keep devices on silent; respect quiet and no-media zones.
10) Updates & contact
This policy may be updated to reflect best practice or operational changes.
